“Burlesque” Buzz

If you think about Christina Aguilera starring in a film called “Burlesque,” you’re bound to get a little excited. Some thought the film would be a train wreck, but the reviews aren’t that bad.

Here’s Jason Zingale from Bullz-Eye.com:

There are a number of things that one can expect from a movie called “Burlesque” – like singing, dancing, and gorgeous women in revealing outfits – but it never even crossed my mind that it might actually be good. Even the film’s trailer hinted at a potential train wreck, so you’ll probably be surprised to discover that it isn’t half-bad. Though the movie features some terribly underdeveloped characters and gets caught in the allure of its own glitz and glamour, the showy musical numbers and a great debut from Christina Aguilera make “Burlesque” a lot more enjoyable than you might believe. Think “Coyote Ugly” meets “Cabaret.” You know, minus the Nazis.

Newsweek liked it as well.

Sorry, Harry Potter, but “Burlesque” is the event of the holiday season, like the drunk aunt who shows up late to Thanksgiving dinner and falls into your mashed potatoes. The acting is almost nonexistent—Cher’s face can’t move because of Botox, and Christina Aguilera’s moves even less (she can’t emote). The audience I saw it with laughed at the serious lines, and I could hear crickets during the jokes. But Burlesque is so bad that it’s good: over-the-top, ridiculous fun. As with a Taylor Swift concert or a stick of Velveeta, you can’t resist the cheese.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, the public likes it more than the critics.

Olivia Newton-John comic book biography in stores today

Actress and singer Olivia Newton-John survived her battle with breast cancer. Now she’s devoted her life to helping other women beat the disease. Her comic book biography will not only trace the four-time Grammy award winner’s rise to stardom, it will also generate funds for breast cancer research, with a portion of the book’s proceeds going to the “Olivia Newton-John Cancer Centre”.

“Breast cancer in the beginning that was hard to talk about. So it takes a while before you can put it into a category that you can discuss without becoming emotional” Olivia Newton John said to Bluewater, the book’s publisher, about her coming out publicly about breast cancer.

Newton-John worked with Bluewater and writer Sandra Ruckdeschel on the comic’s script. Ruckdeschel said that working on the story was an experience that she’ll never forget.

“Olivia Newton-John has had an amazing career,” said Darren Davis, founder and president of Bluewater Productions. “Her greatest victory, though, come in 1992, when she survived her battle with breast cancer. We are happy to work with her on this comic and to hopefully play at least a small role in the fight against breast cancer.”

The suggested retail price (SRP) for the upcoming comic book is $3.99. To make sure you get your copy, contact your local comic book store to pre-order it. To find a comic book store near you go to www.comicshoplocator.com. The comic will also be on Amazon.

More Ways to Love Monica Bellucci!

Esquire is featuring Monica Bellucci’s new book of photographs, Nine Ways.

The beautiful Bellucci offers up a collection of photographs by some of the world’s best photographers.

When I was a young girl I would daydream while looking at the photographs by Helmut Newton, Bruce Weber, and Richard Avedon, but I never had the body of a model. I was tall, but not tall enough, and curvaceous without ever wanting to be thin. I’ve never sought the perfection dictated by laws of the fashion world. Maybe it’s because I don’t believe in perfection or in any law that demands that we all look the same. Yet this book represents more than twenty years of my life in front of a camera. I’ve offered myself to its gaze, with creativity, and also by giving into my femininity.

Read the story and see more photos in Esquire.
