Who doesn’t like to keep up with celebrities? Well, lots of people, but this article isn’t for them. There are tens of thousands of mobile apps available across any number of devices, and given the enormous popularity of celebrity news and gossip sources like Entertainment Tonight and TMZ, it is no surprise that there are apps that cater to the legions of dedicated super-fans. Here are just a few of them.
Personal celebrity apps
A lot of celebrities have their own personal mobile apps, which is great, because without them, we would have to rely on TMZ to tell us what Jay-Z is doing on any given day. Chuck Norris, Britney Spears, Samuel L. Jackson, Lady Gaga, will.i.am and many more have personal apps.
With these apps, celebrities keep followers updated and informed on their lives, their interests, their careers and their latest projects. These apps bring fans into the lives of celebrities on a level not matched by gossip sources. Because what better source is there for info on will.i.am’s latest musical project than will.i.am himself? Oh, and speaking of celebrity gossip sources…
Celebrity gossip and news apps
All the biggest celebrity gossip sources have their own apps to keep followers informed. Fans can download the People Celebrity News Tracker or apps from TMZ, Entertainment Tonight, MTV News, E! Online and more to make sure that they never miss a celebrity bad hair day, marriage, break up, arrest or fashion mistake.
Celebrity preferred apps
When celebrities are photographed doing something mundane, gossip magazines sometimes say that they are “just like us.” Well, in terms of what mobile apps they like, this is certainly true. They enjoy many of the same apps that a lot of other people do.
Rachel Ray says her favorite app is the Boggle-like game Quordy, rapper T-Pain plays the game Amateur Surgeon and Neil Patrick Harris likes the storyboard app called Hitchcock. Alec Baldwin’s affinity for Words with Friends got him into trouble when he refused to stop playing the game on an airplane when asked to turn off his electronic device. Lisa Lampanelli uses the Weight Watchers app to keep track of what she eats, and Marlon Wayons likes the iAnnotate application for reading and editing scripts.
Celebrity-relevant apps are great. Unfortunately, everyone’s economic situation is not so great and many can’t afford the latest and best mobile devices. Have no fear, super-fans. The economical choice, prepaid cell phones and prepaid cell phone plans will make sure that the wisdom of David Hasselhoff or news about the latest power-couple break-up is always at your fingertips.
People follow celebrities for a variety of reasons. Some are simply curious; others share their interests. Sometimes celebrity lives seem larger-than-life and that can be amusing. Even using the same apps that celebrities use makes some fans feel closer to the person whose work they enjoy. Whatever the reason, people love to keep track of their favorite celebs, and mobile apps are one of the best ways to do so.
Who’s your favorite 80s star? I have a ton of them, but Heather Thomas definitely ranks up there. She starred as Jody Banks on “The Fall Guy” from 1981 through 1986 and was a sensation. You can see from the poster to the right why she was so popular. I had this poster in my room in college as did many other guys back in the day. She was a stunning blonde with an incredible smile. She had a girl next door type personality but looked like a blonde bombshell.
Another popular pinup icon from the 80s has to be Madonna, and with these two you see polar opposite styles. Both are sexy as hell, but Madonna had much more of a bad girl persona and she pushed 80s fashion with some of her wild styles. When you think of celebrity sexy outfits Madonna always comes to mind regardless of what era you’re thinking about.
You can keep both of these celebrities in mind if you’re thinking about looks for an 80s theme party. Now if you’re looking for eighties dress ideas you might want to look back on old episodes of “Dallas” instead of these two. With Madonna the sexy lingerie and bohemian look stands out, while Heather Thomas is more casual.
Now if you’re party has an older 70s theme instead, you can look to shows like “Charlie’s Angels” for inspiration for a fancy 70′s dress.
Either way, these theme parties are fun. Women love to dress up, and guys love it when women get decked out in sexy outfits. Everybody wins!
Ann Summers has launched a new campaign in collaboration with ITV2 to find the sexiest women in the UK for a TV-based competition.
Entrants will take part in the competition in a bid to become the new face of the kinky retailer with lingerie from Ann Summers on show throughout the campaign. ITV2 will air short teasers in the run up to the final advert, which will hand the vote over to the public to pick the sexiest model. The results of the poll at www.sexyuncovered.com will determine which model will grace screens in Ann Summers’ advertising campaign next year.
The popular colors for fall this year are mustard, rust, purple and the timeless black and white. The trendy styles include jackets and sweaters that are tapered to show off the waist-line as well as polka dot patterns and checks. You will also see oversize coats and maxi-skirts in the most exclusive women’s stores on Fifth Avenue and Rodeo Drive. Here are five fashion trends for 2011.
1. Polka Time. Fall means Oktoberfest in many cities around the world and this year the Beer Barrel Polka isn’t the only one that will be popular. Polka Dots are in. Whether you find them on dresses or a blouse, they have found their way on to many of the runways in New York, Paris and Milan. Top designers like Diane von Furstenberg are using them in a variety of ways to dress up outfits. Something as simple as a black and white polka dot scarf can dress up an outfit to make it look like something off the pages of Glamour Magazine.
2. Mustard. To stick with the Oktoberfest theme, you will want to put some mustard on your bratwurst this fall. One of the top colors for the fall of 2011 is mustard. You can expect to see one of the Olsen twins out on the town this fall in a slim mustard colored jacket from The Row. You might even see Mary Kate or Ashley sporting a mustard colored Day Luze alligator bag from The Row. Don’t want to pay the full Barney’s of New York price? Shop eBay purses for a deal.
3. Maxi-skirts. Put away the minis for the fall, instead maxi-skirts are in. Pleated long skirts were a staple of Fashion Week this year and are being touted as the perfect weekend wear. Dress one up with a sweater and you are ready to hit the town on a Saturday night. Nicole Richie has already been snapped by the paparazzi on the town in maxi-skits from Ella Moss.
4. Oversize Jackets. Fall means a chill in the air and the stylish way to stay warm this October and November will be in an oversize jacket. Camel colored blazers and outerwear were all the rage back when DKNY and the other top brands were rolling out their fall line. Try a camel jacket over a rust colored dress and you will be at the high-end of the fall fashion trend.
5. Black and White. It is so timeless that it almost seems wrong to call black and white a fashion trend but it is once again a big part of the fall line for designers in London and Paris. Whether it is in the polka dot pattern we mentioned earlier or white lace over solid black, these outfits can be worn to work and then right out to happy hour afterwards.
Do you see something in our fashion trends that will work for you? Or, do you have some trendy style ideas for the fall of your own?
Celebrities love to invest in real estate. These homes can be practical, but most are lavish, interesting and very expensive. Learning about them could help encourage you to become a celebrity in your own right.
Learning about celebrity homes can be a lot of fun. For some, it can be enough to encourage you to get your interior decorating degree so you can learn how to create these posh pads yourself. Check out some of the top luxurious homes that celebrities are not always happy to share with the public.
1. Jennifer Aniston
Jennifer Aniston’s recent sale of her Los Angeles, California home has people wondering if the A-list actress is on her way to New York. The home, which includes a spa, pool and plenty of room, as well as designer decor, sold for between $37 and $38 million. The 10,000 square foot estate has everything a star could ask for, including great views of LA.
2. Jimmy Fallon
Funny guy Jimmy Fallon just recently purchased a home, but it sits in East End and is a farmhouse rather than a traditional modern home. The property, coming in at $5.7 million includes lots of land and two stables.
3. Bill Gates
Bill Gates is known for his ability to develop powerful companies and his home is nothing short of idealistic. Worth $40 billion, Gates has the ability to buy whatever he wants. His 66,000 square foot home is in Lake Washington just outside of Seattle.
4. Donald Trump
Donald Trump’s home is right inside Trump Towers, an office building in the heart of New York City. The home has 32,000 square feet in a triplex fashion, but is a penthouse filled with lavish decor. 5. Oprah Winfrey
Oprah Winfrey is well known as the wealthiest woman on the planet and her homes are all well priced. One of the most lavish is a property she purchased in 2001. She calls the property the Promised Land. It is a 23,000 square foot home with a Georgian style to it. In 2007, it appraised at $85 million.
6. Kate Hudson
Kate Hudson was recently in the news when she purchased a $6.5 million home in London. In addition, the actress purchased a Tudor style home right next to her current home in the Pacific Palisades for $5.3 million.
Many celebrities do not provide a lot of detail about their homes. It is, after all, their private sanctuary. However, when these properties hit the market, pictures become readily available. Learning about celebrity homes is just fun to do.
Actress Elizabeth Olsen, the younger sister of the Olsen twins, is starting to get some publicity of her own. While her sisters are generating buzz more for their fashion line than any acting, Elizabeth is starring in several films that debuted at Sundance. Look out for her in “Martha Marcy May Marlene” opening soon.
Celebrities lead expensive lives, dropping anywhere from hundreds to millions of dollars on their shoes, their clothes, their cars, their…hair?
Surprisingly, coiffures for the Rich and Famous (or for the Someone-Else-Is-Footing-The-Bill and Famous) can be the priciest part of a star’s signature style. Here is a list of the top ten Costliest Celebrity Cuts of all time, starting with:
10. Kate Hudson: $650
Hudson kicks it off with admitting to one of Hollywood’s steepest dye jobs. The Fool’s Gold star spends $650 to achieve her white-gold locks, with the help of longtime LA stylist David Babaii of Neil George Salon. But Hudson isn’t the only H-Wood blonde paying serious money for their hair. Joining her is:
9. Justin Bieber: $750
Who knew the Bieb’s hair was so expensive? According to “Life & Style Magazine”, Justin Bieber’s famous ‘do costs upward of $750 per haircut (with house calls for touch-ups every 2 weeks). I guess that settles the question of whether you can accomplish the same with a salad bowl and a pair of scissors. The pop singer’s stylist is the ironically named Vanessa Price, who claims to have originated the look in 2009.
8. Anne Hathaway: $950
It should be no surprise that The Devil Wears Prada star goes all out for her brunette tresses. Hathaway comes in at number 8 for dropping a whopping $950 on her ‘do, frequenting celeb stylist Ted Gibson. Gibson’s clients also include Zoe Saldana, fellow Costly Cut Listee Kate Gosselin, and the fashion houses Channel and Prada.
7. Michael Douglas: $6,000
In 1969, an unknown 24 year-old actor was given one of the costliest on-screen haircuts in cinema history—for free! That man was Michael Douglas, who grew long hair for his debut role in the movie Hail, Hero! The locks got lopped off for a scene where Douglas’ “father,” played by Arthur Kennedy, goes to town on his “son’s” mop-top with a pair of scissors. Kennedy was paid $1,000 (the equivalent of $6,000 today) to snip it off.
Douglas also got snippy when he learned his hair would take six months to grow back, but was consoled by winning a Golden Globe for the role…and for his subsequent career.
6. John Paul DeJoria: $10,000
The chairman and co-founder of famous hair-styling company John Paul Mitchell Systems, John Paul DeJoria, is known worldwide for both his charitable donations and his salt-and-pepper ponytail. But in an effort to raise money for the Red Cross’ Asian tsunami relief fund, our stylish Samaritan offered to chop off the ‘tail!
DeJoria's asking price for his hair was $10,000, though he helped raise more than $50,000 before giving radio host Leeza Gibbons the honor of the ceremonial cut in January 2005.
5. Kate Gosselin: $21,300
Kate Plus Eight…plus another $21,292…equals reality TV’s priciest mom hair. According to insider reports, Kate Gosselin has spent a tremendous amount of money for her hair, about $21,300 total on extensions since January 2010. Just goes to show that the modern mom can have it all—provided she has a television network paying her bills.
4. Jennifer Aniston: $50,000
Jennifer Aniston, the woman who brought us “The Rachel,” and every other female hairstyle of the 1990’s, spent $50,000 on a haircut when in London promoting the movie Marley and Me. The money included airline tickets, hotel stays and other perks for the stylists in addition to the cut. I would say Aniston’s cut was the most expensive part of Marley and Me—though no word yet on how much the dog paid for his blonde coat.
3. Jerry Lewis: $250,000
John Paul DeJoria isn’t the only celebrity who decided to chop it off for the needy—just asks comedian Jerry Lewis. In 1977, McDonald's franchiser Ray Kroc playfully held his $250,000 donation to the Muscular Dystrophy Association ransom until Jerry Lewis agreed to get a serious trim. Lewis, chairman of the MDA, happily gave in, securing the money and giving newspapers the opportunity to run hair / comedy pun headlines for a week (the winner? “Cutting Up For A Cause”).
2. Troy Polamula: $1,000,000
Speaking of one million dollars, that’s the amount Head and Shoulders insured NFL superstar Troy Polamula’s hair for.
The Pittsburg Steeler gained fame for his curly mane when he was first joined the team, and notoriety for refusing to cut it in the 8 years since. Head and Shoulders saw a perfect spokesman in this modern-day Samoan Sampson and snapped him up, insuring his flowing tresses for the duration of the NFL season.
1. Paris Hilton $70,000,000
Of course, no list of exorbitant celebrity anything is complete without Paris Hilton! The celebrity is currently being sued for $70 million…for wearing the wrong hair.
You heard me.
Seems the controversial Singer / Actress / Rich Person signed a contract in 2007 to promote hair extensions for Hairtech International. The company paid Hilton $3.5 million, but got upset when they spotted her wearing their competitors locks in magazines and on television the very next year. Hairtech turned around and sued Hilton in August 2010 for $35 mil (10 times the amount they paid her) claiming to have suffered at least $6.6 mil in losses. While Hilton’s lawyers have publicly dismissed the case as frivolous, Hairtech has not—and in December 2010 upped the lawsuit to $70 mil.

Acclaimed couture designer Marc Bouwer is turning fashion week on its head this spring with the first-ever 3D fashion film. The film’s debut will take place in shifts at New York’s SoHo House on the 13th of February. Incorporating the genius of Bravo Media Inc., whose clients include Jay-Z, Rihanna, and Myspace, to name a few, Bouwer has transformed the concept of a fashion show in an innovative and exciting way.
For the past several years, Marc Bouwer has utilized technology to bring high fashion to the people, showing his collections in a virtual capacity so that everyone can have a front row seat. “It’s important to me for everyday people—children, housebound fashion-lovers, college students, everyone—to be able to access the fashion world in a tangible way,” Bouwer explains. He was one of the first designers to use Twitter, Facebook, and other social media tools to interact with his fans, and this year is looking forward to bringing this approach to the next level with the 3D show. Additionally, the use of 3D technology aids in the viewer’s ability to see all the detail and construction of the clothing that might be missed in a traditional viewing.
The film showcases Bouwer’s current collection, highlighting some of his favorite pieces including kimono-inspired jersey knit dresses. The main character travels through a virtual, ever-shifting scene on a journey of self-exploration and growth set against one of the designer’s favorite songs, “Hey You” by Angela McCluskey. As the main character reimagines herself in each new environment, her clothing shifts to reflect different clones of her core persona. Bouwer chose the most cinematic looks from the collection, allowing the film to serve as an image piece to represent the Marc Bouwer brand.
The groundbreaking spectacle needed a star and Bouwer felt that supermodel and Victoria’s Secret angel Selita Ebanks was the perfect fit. “I adore her and think she is stunning—the perfect model for this edgy, beautiful fairy tale.” Known for her exotic good looks and impeccable physique, Ebanks is much more than a pretty face. Part of what compelled Marc to use her in this exciting show is her compassion and personal mission to help people as evidenced in her work for the charity Shine on Sierra Leone.
This spring at New York fashion week, Marc Bouwer invites everyone with a love of clothes—from the fashion elite to the magazine-lover next door—into a magical 3D world of couture. Reality shifts, dreams are explored, and high fashion is so close you can (almost) reach out and touch it.
