Top 5 Fall 2011 Trends

Polka Dot Dress. The popular colors for fall this year are mustard, rust, purple and the timeless black and white. The trendy styles include jackets and sweaters that are tapered to show off the waist-line as well as polka dot patterns and checks. You will also see oversize coats and maxi-skirts in the most exclusive women’s stores on Fifth Avenue and Rodeo Drive. Here are five fashion trends for 2011.

1. Polka Time. Fall means Oktoberfest in many cities around the world and this year the Beer Barrel Polka isn’t the only one that will be popular. Polka Dots are in. Whether you find them on dresses or a blouse, they have found their way on to many of the runways in New York, Paris and Milan. Top designers like Diane von Furstenberg are using them in a variety of ways to dress up outfits. Something as simple as a black and white polka dot scarf can dress up an outfit to make it look like something off the pages of Glamour Magazine.

2. Mustard. To stick with the Oktoberfest theme, you will want to put some mustard on your bratwurst this fall. One of the top colors for the fall of 2011 is mustard. You can expect to see one of the Olsen twins out on the town this fall in a slim mustard colored jacket from The Row. You might even see Mary Kate or Ashley sporting a mustard colored Day Luze alligator bag from The Row. Don’t want to pay the full Barney’s of New York price? Shop eBay purses for a deal.

3. Maxi-skirts. Put away the minis for the fall, instead maxi-skirts are in. Pleated long skirts were a staple of Fashion Week this year and are being touted as the perfect weekend wear. Dress one up with a sweater and you are ready to hit the town on a Saturday night. Nicole Richie has already been snapped by the paparazzi on the town in maxi-skits from Ella Moss.

4. Oversize Jackets. Fall means a chill in the air and the stylish way to stay warm this October and November will be in an oversize jacket. Camel colored blazers and outerwear were all the rage back when DKNY and the other top brands were rolling out their fall line. Try a camel jacket over a rust colored dress and you will be at the high-end of the fall fashion trend.

5. Black and White. It is so timeless that it almost seems wrong to call black and white a fashion trend but it is once again a big part of the fall line for designers in London and Paris. Whether it is in the polka dot pattern we mentioned earlier or white lace over solid black, these outfits can be worn to work and then right out to happy hour afterwards.

Do you see something in our fashion trends that will work for you? Or, do you have some trendy style ideas for the fall of your own?

Learning about celebrity homes can be a lot of fun. For some, it can be enough to encourage you to get your interior decorating degree so you can learn how to create these posh pads yourself. Check out some of the top luxurious homes that celebrities are not always happy to share with the public.

1. Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston’s recent sale of her Los Angeles, California home has people wondering if the A-list actress is on her way to New York. The home, which includes a spa, pool and plenty of room, as well as designer decor, sold for between $37 and $38 million. The 10,000 square foot estate has everything a star could ask for, including great views of LA.

2. Jimmy Fallon

Funny guy Jimmy Fallon just recently purchased a home, but it sits in East End and is a farmhouse rather than a traditional modern home. The property, coming in at $5.7 million includes lots of land and two stables.

3. Bill Gates

Bill Gates is known for his ability to develop powerful companies and his home is nothing short of idealistic. Worth $40 billion, Gates has the ability to buy whatever he wants. His 66,000 square foot home is in Lake Washington just outside of Seattle.

4. Donald Trump

Donald Trump’s home is right inside Trump Towers, an office building in the heart of New York City. The home has 32,000 square feet in a triplex fashion, but is a penthouse filled with lavish decor.
5. Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey is well known as the wealthiest woman on the planet and her homes are all well priced. One of the most lavish is a property she purchased in 2001. She calls the property the Promised Land. It is a 23,000 square foot home with a Georgian style to it. In 2007, it appraised at $85 million.

6. Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson was recently in the news when she purchased a $6.5 million home in London. In addition, the actress purchased a Tudor style home right next to her current home in the Pacific Palisades for $5.3 million.

10 Highly Educated Celebrities

When you think about celebrities, you probably assume that they came to their fame without having much education. There are more celebrities than you may think with degrees — and not just a bachelor’s degree. Here is a list of 10 celebrities who have graduate degrees.

1. David Duchovny: Duchovny is best known for his role as Agent Mulder on The X-Files and more recently as Hank Moody on Californication. Before beginning his career, however, Duchovny received a master’s degree in English literature from Yale University.

2. Rowan Atkinson: If Atkinson’s name isn’t familiar, you’re likely familiar with one of his most famous characters, Mr. Bean. Although Atkinson has made it a career playing the idiot, he is far from it. Before acting, he first got a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Oxford.

3. Shaquille O’Neal: Shaq’s degree came later in life. After earning his bachelor’s degree in 2000 in general studies, he went on to earn his MBA online through the University of Phoenix.

4. Sigourney Weaver: Before her acting career took off, Weaver earned a master’s degree in art from Yale University’s School of Drama.

5. Bill Cosby: Famous for his stand-up comedy on everyday life, including giving his children chocolate cake for breakfast (after all, it has eggs and milk and flour), Bill Cosby believed education was important. Even while being successful with comedy and acting, Cosby earned a doctorate degree in education from the University of Massachusetts.

6. Art Garfunkel: Although he was known more for his music with Paul Simon, Arthur Garfunkle was also a math whiz earning a master’s degree in mathematics from Columbia University.

7. Spike Lee: Though born as Shelton Jackson Lee, it was his mother who named him Spike because of how tough he was. Lee graduated from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in Film and Television. In fact, Lee has joined the ranks of celebrity professors by teaching film at NYU and Columbia.

8. Brian May: Though his first love is being a musician, as songwriter and lead guitarist for Queen, his second love is in astrophysics. Although he took time off from his doctoral studies to be a musician, he went back to school and, in 2007, earned his Ph.D. in astrophysics from the Imperial College in London.

9. Mayim Bialik: Best known for her role as Blossom in the show Blossom, Mayim Bialik earned her doctorate in neuroscience in 2008. Most recently, Bialik has returned to acting playing Amy Farrah Fowler on CBS’s The Big Bang Theory, where she plays a neurobiologist.

10. Ken Jeong: Though Jeong is best known as a comedian, starting his career at The Improv and Laugh Factory comedy clubs and currently appearing in NBC’s Community, Jeong earned his medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is affectionately referred to as Dr. Ken.

Knowing that so many celebrities have earned graduate degrees, doesn’t it make you feel like you could do it too?

With the news that Maria Shriver is separating from Arnold Schwarzenegger after 25 years of marriage, we thought we’d put together a gallery of Maria and 7 more celebrity cougars. If you’re fantasizing about dating older women, you’ll love this gallery.

We start with one of our favorites, Jennifer Aniston, who looks more like a 20-something hottie than a cougar, and we naturally included Courtney Cox as well, the beautiful brunette who stars in ABC’s “Cougar Town.”

We also made sure to add some bombshells who love to sport their impressive cleavage, with Sofia Vergara, Monica Bellucci and Elizabeth Hurley fitting nicely in that category. Of course we added the most famous cougar, Demi Moore, who is most known for scoring a younger guy well into her forties. And then we have Cameron Diaz, who has been very open about how women her age still love sex! God bless them!

Dating Jennifer Aniston

It’s hard to find a guy who hasn’t fantasized about dating Jennifer Aniston. She’s gorgeous and she seems to be fun as hell. Who cares if she hasn’t landed a guy? That makes her even sexier – she’s available!

Radar Online has a great story about a former lover of Jennifer who tells all about their relationship! Brian Bouma hooked up with Jen when they met on a movie set and he dishes on the details, saying she preferred “bad boys”:

Bouma told Star that dating Jen, “was an overwhelming experience. I just want to set the record straight, she’s not the person people think she is.”

“She approached me,” he told the mag about the start of their fast romance.

Bouma was a lighting tech on the movie Love Happens in 2008 when Aniston made it clear she was interested in him – only seven hours after spotting him on the set, he told the magazine.

“All that’s written about her being lonely is just ridiculous,” he told Star. “I didn’t spend time with Jen because she was famous or successful. It was because of the conversation that first time we spoke. She’s genuine, sincere and charismatic.”

It was an overwhelming experience,” Bouma told Star, explaining that Jen preferred ‘bad boys’ and he didn’t measure up, even though their romance played out from Canada to Los Angeles.

“I guess she just wasn’t that into me,” he said. “She did tell me that I was too ‘Mr. Pure.’

“She kind of made me feel and act like a young school boy.”
