Polka Dot Dress. The popular colors for fall this year are mustard, rust, purple and the timeless black and white. The trendy styles include jackets and sweaters that are tapered to show off the waist-line as well as polka dot patterns and checks. You will also see oversize coats and maxi-skirts in the most exclusive women’s stores on Fifth Avenue and Rodeo Drive. Here are five fashion trends for 2011.

1. Polka Time. Fall means Oktoberfest in many cities around the world and this year the Beer Barrel Polka isn’t the only one that will be popular. Polka Dots are in. Whether you find them on dresses or a blouse, they have found their way on to many of the runways in New York, Paris and Milan. Top designers like Diane von Furstenberg are using them in a variety of ways to dress up outfits. Something as simple as a black and white polka dot scarf can dress up an outfit to make it look like something off the pages of Glamour Magazine.

2. Mustard. To stick with the Oktoberfest theme, you will want to put some mustard on your bratwurst this fall. One of the top colors for the fall of 2011 is mustard. You can expect to see one of the Olsen twins out on the town this fall in a slim mustard colored jacket from The Row. You might even see Mary Kate or Ashley sporting a mustard colored Day Luze alligator bag from The Row. Don’t want to pay the full Barney’s of New York price? Shop eBay purses for a deal.

3. Maxi-skirts. Put away the minis for the fall, instead maxi-skirts are in. Pleated long skirts were a staple of Fashion Week this year and are being touted as the perfect weekend wear. Dress one up with a sweater and you are ready to hit the town on a Saturday night. Nicole Richie has already been snapped by the paparazzi on the town in maxi-skits from Ella Moss.

4. Oversize Jackets. Fall means a chill in the air and the stylish way to stay warm this October and November will be in an oversize jacket. Camel colored blazers and outerwear were all the rage back when DKNY and the other top brands were rolling out their fall line. Try a camel jacket over a rust colored dress and you will be at the high-end of the fall fashion trend.

5. Black and White. It is so timeless that it almost seems wrong to call black and white a fashion trend but it is once again a big part of the fall line for designers in London and Paris. Whether it is in the polka dot pattern we mentioned earlier or white lace over solid black, these outfits can be worn to work and then right out to happy hour afterwards.
