The “American Beauty” star, Mena Suvari, and Simone Sestito, a concert promoter, had been engaged since 2008. They met a year earlier at the Toronto Film Festival.

The newlyweds chose the historic church for their ceremony because most of the groom’s family lives in or near Rome.
